Interpretation of the form, condition and hand painted design points firmly to the late 17thC Ming Dynasty. This tactile circular form Ginger jar / Guan was originally used for carrying herbs and spices for export markets. Main body has cobalt blue designs over cream/grey grounds. The hand painting illustrates fishing, a boat and a village scene in simple outline form. On the bottom there are two markings in cobalt blue. The base rim is nibbled, the neck opening is generally in good condition with a few nibbles. No lid present.
