‘York from the Ouse’ hand coloured engraving print published by Cassell & Co London - 1898.
Featuring period view towards York from the River Ouse.
Framed under glass in a gilt frame with decorative mount, ready for display and appreciation.
York Minster can be clearly seen along with other important prominent structures including Lendal bridge completed in 1863. This bridge which still stands today was the second vehicular bridge accessing York. This Gothic style iron bridge was in fact a second attempt, designed by the same Architect who designed Westminster Bridge in London.
Interestingly, this site was previously a busy ferry crossing, the Ferry-man was put out of work by the bridge, he was compensated with the sum of £15.00 and a horse and cart.
