WW1 Army Officers Compass by Terrasse W. Co. 1918.
MK VI Pocket Compass in nickel plated pocket watch case, marked with War Dept marking, makers name and 1918 date stamp.
The compass glass has a black hair line guide, ridium luminous markings to main compass points. Compass is free moving but its accuracy has not been tested.
Background details.
Terrasse W. Co. was together with Barker and Dennison an important British compass maker during WW I. The Mark VI Pocket compass is of the watch type. It differs from its predecessor the Mark V in that the dial is graduated every five degrees instead of points of compass and figured every 20 degrees. The North point is marked with a radium-painted luminous arrow, the E. W. and S. points by luminous dots, the black hair line drawn across the glass includes radium-luminous marks, one end being arrow-shaped. (Description from The Prismatic Compass).
