Original WW2 German Wehrmacht poster with detailed recognition information describing Soviet WW2 uniforms and rank insignia.
This folded poster has a rather unique and poignant story. Thousands of POW’s starved to death or died from disease and chronic illness due to Stalag / Work camp conditions. In one camp alone more than 20,000 POW bodies were piled around the camp because insufficient coal was available for cremation.
But despite all the horrors humans can inflict on each other this is a story of survival and a new life.
A Prisoner of War detailed the story for posterity on the rear of the poster, it reads - “This poster was liberated from the Guard Room at Arbeits Kommando (POW facility) at Obersending Munchen (Munich) Germany on 30th April 1945 by 3rd Division, 7th U.S. army. The German Guards immediately melted away in their civilian clothes…”
